In build up to visits this week, I drove to Los Alamos to hear the Oppenheimer lecture (40th year). The drive to Los Alamos from Santa Fe was pretty fantastic, the views were something I have never seen before in NM. Numerous bluffs/plateaus and great skyline.
The lecture was by Dr. Ahmed Zewail, Nobel Prize (1999) for his work in femtoscience (phenomena that occur on the scale of a femtosecond or one millionth of a billionth of a second). He is the developer of the 4D electron microscope (4D as in time). It was very interesting to be in a room filled with some of the smartest people in the US let alone the world.
