Boy's RYLA 7-29-10

Shane LeMon does a great job with this as do his counselors.  I had the opportunity to speak to over 60 young men about self esteem, pride, the importance of asking questions throughout life, and decision making.  Had a great Q&A time afterward.  That night was their speech contest, obviously something close to my heart and many of the fellas were well prepared.  It was neat to see so many future leaders fired up to make things happen in their life and in the life of those around them.  Seemed like strong Interact participation at this year's RYLA as well.

On the way to RYLA I came up to this sign.  Great thing about being District Governor and driving the largest District in the continental US, I get to find towns in New Mexico/W. Texas I never knew about.

O.V. # 13 RC of Carrizozo 7-29-10

What an active group this is and totally props up an ailing community of Carrizozo.  They listed over 10 projects they annually perform in their community.  One of the neatest is a U.S. Flag fundraiser where they put out the US Flag on national holidays for a fee.  Nice group of folks and truly how Rotary used to be.  Key owners, managers, community leaders make up the majority of the membership of this club.  They also have two charter members remaining.  One stated that he was 42 when he joined and helped charter this club, he is now 93!

O.V. #12 RC of ABQ Sandia 7-27-10

Club number 70 in our District, chartered June 30th, 2010.  It was great to see such energy and Mollie, Charter President has set a good tone.  One thing she said that I really liked was her desire to send cards to folks when they are sick, make phone calls when they miss more than one club meeting (ie in reach, care).  This is part of the solution to the revolving back door problem:  let people know they are appreciated.   This group is multinational (I think folks from at least 6 different countries) and multiethnic.  Mollie and her group have a bright future and I am looking forward to watching them grow!  Thanks for the hospitality and warm reception!

O.V. #11 RC of Mountainair 7-22-10

After a quick 'sprint' (45 min) South of ABQ to the turn off to Mountainair (another 45 min up the hill), I visited with their immediate Past President and Secretary Emeritus, along with a couple others.  Active in food distribution through Roadrunner Food Bank, and several other projects.  The restaurant had a great club sandwich.
